Pioneer ICPC Chair, Justice Akanbi dies at 85

The Pioneer Chairman of Independence Corrupt Practice and other related offences Commission (ICPC) and former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Mustapha Akanbi (CFR) is dead.

Justice Akanbi who was also the first Wakili of Ilorin died in the early hours of today at a private hospital in Ilorin after a brief illness at the age of 85 years.

One of the children of late Mustapha Akanbi, Barrister Ahmed Akanbi, confirmed the passing away of the Ghana born incorruptible judge and a foremost anti graft crusader.

The Janaza prayer, according to the spokesperson of the family, will take place today by 2pm at the deceased residence, House number 6, Agbadam street, off Ahmadu Bello way, G. R. A Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, while the 8 day Fidau will hold next week Sunday.

Honourable Justice Akanbi (retd.) was a founder of Mustapha Akanbi Foundation, Maasalam Islamic Foundation, Mustapha Akanbi Library and Resource Center, Nana Aishat Academy, and several others.

He was until his death a Grand Patron of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Kwara State Chapter and a supporter of the activities of ANA at national level.

Late Justice Mustapha Muhammed Adebayo Akanbi was born on Sunday, September 11th 1932 in Accra, Ghana and died on Sunday, June 3rd 2018.

He will be sorely missed by the entire Ilorin Emirate, Kwara state, Nigeria, Africa and the world at large.

May Allah grant him Aljanatul fridaus and give the family he left behind, the emirate, Kwara and Nigerians in general the fortitude to bear the loss.

Swanky Jerry, Tonto Dikeh, Churchill bags award at Nigeria Hype Awards 2018

The Nigeria Hype Awards 2018 was held last Saturday night at Yard 158 Event Arena, Ikeja, Lagos.

The awards, which had its first that night recognised and rewarded students, youths and other well meaning Nigerians who have excelled in their chosen areas and added values to people's lives, including those in the music, fashion and broadcast industry.

In the overall categories of the awards, celebrity stylist, Jeremiah Ogbodo aka Swanky Jerry took home the most of the awards for Fashion Icon, Stylist of the year and Style Influencer. Following closely was a University of Lagos (UNILAG)’s upcoming artiste, L-King who won Artiste and Rap Artiste of the year, under the students category.

Other entertainers, entrepreneurs and promoters in the categories recognised and rewarded include Tonto Dikeh Foundation, Odumewu Debbie (PinkiDebbie), Denrele Edun, Olakunle Churchill, Funke Akindele, Naijaloaded.com, Freshofofo.com, Toolz,  MC Fatboy, Adedimeji Lateef, Lasisi Elenu among others.

Unveiling Air Around Us: A Collection of Compelling Poems by Abduhafeez T. Oyewole

As part of this year's birthday celebration package of the Edutainment Presenters, MKO and Prince HTO (Precioustwins), the latter Abdulhafeez Taiye Oyewole (i.e Prince HTO) has released a poetry collection titled Air Around Us- A Collection of Compelling Poems for the reading pleasure of all literary enthusiasts.

Abduhafeez T. Oyewole is the author of Tides of Verses: a Compedium of poem, published in 2015 by Speaking Pen International Concept (SPIC). He's the Editor-in-Chief of the year (2014) of the Pen Club of the Prestigious Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria and 3rd Prize Winner of the Muazu Maiwada Poetry Competition of the ABU Creative Writers' Club in 2014.
