Artiste's Corner (II)- Features A-Swagz (C.E.O) of Played on Campus

Hi everyone, welcome on board to the yet another refreshing edition of  GDG’s “Artiste’s Corner”, our feature personality is a multi-talented fella, who goes by the name Abdullahi Abubakar. He is of many monikers among which are A-swagz and Abdul Abu respectively. You will identify with him better in this talk with the GDG boss, Abdulhafeez T. Oyewole.

Excerpts:

GDG:-  Who is A-swagz?

A-swagz:-  A-swagz is an innovative young man with
a mindset to achieve greatness. He is an indigene of Kaduna state and a final year student of Mass Communication in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (Nigeria).

GDG:- “An innovative young man” are interesting words to qualify yourself (with). So, what have you innovated at present that what sharing?

A-swagz:-  For starter, I run an entertainment website (Played_on_Campus), a baby project fastly growing into a full bodied project. I am also a poet with more than a hundred poems to my credit and some of these poems have been published on national dailies. By innovative, I mean I am a person who believes in using all available resources to naturally attract recognition, glory, and of course a means of healing for my earning.

GDG:- What serves as source of motivation for your bold step?

A-swagz:-  The people around me, my friends, but most importantly my instincts. Am not saying I am self-centered. But I’m lucky to have the blessing of the ability to channel the given positivity and filtering the negativity. These serve as my source of motivation.

GDG:- As for your new website, do you have any crew or buddy helping you out on the contents’ gathering, processing and of course dissemination?

A-swagz:- Right now, I am working  by myself; well with the help of my brother taking me through the technicality of the site! But content wise, I am working alone. I have a couple of pweeps from different states lined up saying “they wanna be part of the crew”. But I wanna take my time and put all things in place, and then will assign them roles. We are trying to create a chain between Nigerian states and Ghana too to broaden our reach.

GDG:-  That’s a good proposition on your part!

A-swagz:- Yes sir, thank you.

GDG:- A hearsay has it that you already have a grounded multi-purpose website bearing one of your monikers: Abdul Abu, how true is that?

A-swagz:- Nope, I don’t have that. I had run a few blogs but this is the main one. So, no sir. I don’t run another site.

GDG:- Let’s go into your musical career, when did you start singing professionally?

A-swagz: Well, I recorded my first song in 2009 but then it was just to brag that I did it and nothing else. Honestly speaking, I cannot declare that I am into music professionally. Yes, I am working on releasing a mixtape but still don’t know if that’s the idea of doing it professionally. I have been paid to perform at occasions, still can’t say it’s a criteria to professional music.

Simply put, I am just going with the flow, if I get signed, fine. If I don’t, at least, I won’t be disappointed.

GDG:- What are the tracks you have your name on, be it collabos or singles?

A-Swagz: Well, there is Barking, Superstar, I’m okay, Riding Solo and Shout out to my H&H. All in my name.  Then, there is Story of my life, Baby girl, No be joke and No lele that I have been featured. Not to mention my latest single Rich and Famous which will feature in my forthcoming mixtape Album hopefully by February.

GDG:- It seems as if Rich and Famous is one of your favourites, if not your favourite track, what makes it stand out to you?

A-swagz:- Yes Rich and Famous is my favourite. Not just as regards to its rhythm but also its message. More over, it featured two incredible individuals that are good in the music scene too.

GDG:- What is it with the message and the featured artistes in the track?

A-swagz:- The message was about a simple dream of being successful. Rather than concentrating on the bragging, I identified with the potentials of everyone else in some of my line like when I said “take the galaxy for a pretty fast spin, till I get that parking space in the stars” metaphorically, the stars are other good people in the industry, so I’m gonna keep pushing till I’m considered one of them.

GDG:-  You failed to point out the role your features: Balani and Rhymez played in the track, or do you think it’s not what knowing/sharing?

A-swagz:- The role they played will best be understood when one listens to the song. It’s more than words can describe but one thing I can say is that the song was recorded by Balani.

GDG:- How do you perceive the Nigerian Entertainment Industry?

A-swagz:- The Entertainment Industry is like a refined jungle, you know, the glamour and splendor illuminate from the face of it. But within, it is a fence battle to survive, to stay relevant, and become unforgettable. You have to put your mind and thought (because they are two different things) into creating unique materials and by doing so; you will step on other’s toes as much as yours will be stepped on.

GDG:-  Perhaps, we’ll be having another session with you, where you will be speaking as a poet, cos now you're speaking as a C.E.O and a musician.

A-swagz:- I’ll be honoured to speak here as a poet sir.

GDG:-  What will be your parting message(s) for everyone, including your fans and GDG’s fans on this edition?

A-swagz:- My message to my fans is that I’m grateful for the loyalty and support. Even on a bad day, you should still stay focus. I am humbled by the gesture.

To the GDG fans, kudos to you all, be true to what you do. Remember that any silly fool can famz, it takes a real person to be him/herself. So be true to yourself, identify your weaknesses and recognize your strengths. Then try to create a balance, so each compliments the other. Thank you for having me here sir!!!

GDG:- You deserve this bro. Hence, immense thanks to you as well.
